MBA February 2024 Meeting
Sunday, February 25, 2024 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Howard County Library-Miller Branch
9421 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042

During our meeting next Sunday, we will be giving a free Beginner Bonsai Workshop for 18 active duty military members and veterans. This workshop will take place in the third meeting room next to our regular meeting rooms and it will begin at 2:00 p.m. I am not formally soliciting volunteers, but we will need a minimum of 9 people to leave the meeting for 60-90 minutes to help at the beginner workshop. I really appreciate anyone who is willing to help. If you weren’t able to participate in the Wounded Warrior workshop last weekend, this is a great opportunity to share the art of bonsai with our Service members.

We still have some bonsai pots to auction so I plan to bring those to the meeting to get everyone ready for repotting season. I think I have somewhere around 25 more pots to auction so please bring some extra cash, your checkbook, or signup for Zelle through your bank if you would prefer to pay electronically.

Finally, if you are volunteering or would like to attend the Home and Garden Show in March, I will distribute tickets at the meeting. I am still looking for volunteers to staff our booth at the Home and Garden show (see below).

2024 Membership Dues
For 2024, membership dues will remain at $25 for the year. Per the Maryland Bonsai Association By-Laws, dues are payable at the January meeting, but we will continue to collect them through the April meeting. Failure to pay dues by the April meeting would constitute grounds for inactive membership.

2024 Elections
Per the Maryland Bonsai Association By-Laws, as adopted by member vote at the November 2023 meeting, there are two officer positions (Vice President and Treasurer) up for election and one Board of Directors position (Member-at-Large) up for election. Both our current Vice President and Treasurer have agreed to stay in their positions if no election is held due to lack of candidates. However, if you are interested in running for one of these positions, you should do so. The Member-at-Large position technically hasn’t been filled for a few years but Barry has served in that role by default. Elections will be held at the April 2024 monthly meeting. Wayne Warren is the Chairman of the election committee. You must inform Wayne of your intention to run for a position before the March meeting. Candidates will be announced at the March meeting.
