Minutes of Meeting on April 29, 2018

Monthly meeting was held on April 29th, 2018 at the Miller Branch Library.

Dennis had 15 T-Shirts made , costing $196.24, ten (10) were sold for $20 each providing $200 to the club.

The new club member Bill Shumaker was introduced.

The Treasurer's report was given and approved.

This years auction at Behnkes will be held on June 16, the bidder and seller forms can be found on the website. Do not fill in the Bidder No., Seller No. or Seller Item No. You can bring your items to sell as early as 8:30 am, viewing will begin at 9:00 am and selling begins at 10:00 am. Best to bring your items early.

The club member dues are due, Treasurer, Betty Lou, stated that the dues should have been paid by April.

Two (2) spots are open for the Mauro Stemberger workshop ($100 ea) and there are three (3) spots open for silent observers ($30 ea). If interested contact Betty Lou at bettylou1313@yahoo.com.

World Bonsai Day, at the National Arboretum, is being held on Saturday May 12th, assistance is needed (see information below from the N.A. website about this event).

The PBA Spring Bonsai Festival, at the National Arboretum, is being held June 8th -10th , Friday thru Sunday, volunteers are needed (see information below from the N.A. website about this event). Volunteer Sign-Up Link - http://richmondbonsaisociety.org/?page_id=146&sheet_id=9

On Saturday June 2nd for 9:00 am to 12:00 noon Martha Meehan has a Beginner Bonsai Workshop at Valley View Farms however she was unable to attend and Bill Peterson our Club President has volunteered to take over the workshop. Bill is looking for any volunteers who can assist he noted that there were 19 attendees at the last workshop so help would be greatly appreciated.

The club was asked to do a workshop on Saturday May 19th at the Miller Branch Library, Bill motioned that the club have our monthly meeting on this day instead of May 27th, this motion was approved.

The June 24th monthly meeting will be held at the Mille Branch Library.

Bill mentioned that George would be doing a Boxwood Demo at the July 22 monthly meeting at Valley View Farms.

World Bonsai Day May 12, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm National Bonsai & Penjing Museum
The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum is pleased to participate in the 8th Annual World Bonsai Day, created by the World Bonsai Friendship Federation (WBFF). This event honors the memory of Mr. Saburo Kato, a bonsai master and founder of WBFF, who believed that bonsai has the power to unite people by acting as a bridge to international friendship and peace. Come and enjoy free tours of the museum and a bonsai demonstration.

Potomac Bonsai Association Bonsai Festival June 8 - 10, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (vendors), 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (exhibits and demonstrations) Visitor Center auditorium and outdoor terraces (vendors) and the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum (exhibits and workshops)
Co-sponsored by the Potomac Bonsai Association (PBA), the National Bonsai Foundation, and the U.S. National Arboretum, this event features a show of PBA member trees and vendors selling bonsai, pre-bonsai, pots, accents and supplies. A juried exhibit of bonsai will be on view in the Exhibits Gallery of the National bonsai & Penjing Museum (open 10:00 am – 4:00 pm). Free d demonstrations will be given by PBA members. There will also be fee-based workshops.
